Family Vacations in Croatia

Ready for an unforgettable adventure? Our family adventures in Croatia combine outdoor excitement with cultural discovery. Spend your days rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding or canyoning, then slow down as you explore Dubrovnik’s Old Town and unwind on the peaceful island of Lopud.

Small Group Family Adventures in Croatia

Kayak around Lopud Island, slipping into quiet inlets and sandy bays. Take breaks to swim, snorkel or enjoy beach games. Ride the Cetina River’s rapids or try canyoning through caves and waterfalls in the Cetina Gorge.

Our tours are designed with families in mind. Trips are graded Relaxed to Moderate, so you can pick the level of activity that suits you. Groups are small, usually 12 to 18 people, and every trip is led by expert local guides. That means plenty of adventure with time left for bonding and connection.

Best Family Destinations in Croatia

Explore Dubrovnik
Walk through the stone walls of Dubrovnik’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe and the filming site of King’s Landing from Game of Thrones. Once known as Ragusa, the city thrived on trade and diplomacy. Its limestone streets and red rooftops reflect Venetian influence, while Ottoman flavors live on in its food and culture.

Wander the busy Stradun, ride the cable car up Mount Srđ for sweeping Adriatic views or swim in the crystal water below the city walls. Dubrovnik is the centerpiece of our Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Adventure, with plenty of opportunities to swim, snorkel and kayak.

Discover the Elaphiti Islands
Just northwest of Dubrovnik, the Elaphiti Islands are a world apart. Quiet beaches, hidden coves, olive groves and old monasteries make them a peaceful escape from city life. On our Dubrovnik and Croatian Islands Adventure, you’ll paddle past rocky cliffs and secluded bays, then wander Lopud’s car-free streets filled with gardens and cafés.

What to Expect on a Family Vacation in Croatia

How active are Croatia family tours?
Each trip is graded Relaxed or Moderate. Relaxed tours have slower mornings and more free time to explore at your own pace. Moderate tours include more structured activities but still build in a good amount of downtime.

What’s the typical age of children on tour?
The minimum age is seven. The average age of children is around 12 on the Dubrovnik and Islands Adventure and 13 on the Croatian Active Adventure. Groups vary and we can often match you with families who have children close in age to yours.

How many families travel together?
Each group usually has three to five families. It’s enough for kids to make friends and play, while parents get to enjoy socializing and sharing their experiences with fellow travelers.

What kind of accommodations are included?
On the Croatian Active Adventure, families stay in comfortable hotels with daily swimming access at either pools or nearby beaches. On the Dubrovnik and Islands Adventure, you’ll stay in a family-run guesthouse on Lopud, steps from the sea.

What is the food like on a Croatia family vacation?
Croatian cuisine is simple, fresh and Mediterranean at its core. Fish from the Adriatic, local meats and seasonal vegetables are cooked on wood grills or slowly roasted under clay lids, then finished with olive oil.

Italian and Greek influences show up in pastas, stews and tomato-based sauces, while specialties like black risotto made with cuttlefish ink add something unique. Whether you’re along the Dalmatian coast, in Istria or in Zagreb, meals are hearty and traditional.
